The Mighty Oaks

IMG_6534_edited-1

Saturday, April 20, 2013, the oak trees at Toomer’s Corner in Auburn, Alabama, were rolled for the last time. A time-honored tradition, that began when Toomer’s Drug Store would toss telegraph paper over the power lines to let the people of Auburn know that a win had taken place during the away games. On December 2, 1972, the Auburn Tigers played the second ranked, … [Read more...]

2012 gone already…

2012

I know this is a smidgen late, but I have been a smidgen busy...   Another year has passed, and once again, too quickly.  It is true that time goes faster the older you get, but it certainly doesn't mean I enjoy it less.  I believe I have learned to enjoy it more, and hopefully, you have enjoyed the sharing of my adventures with you. 2012 started out with me … [Read more...]

a GREAT idea!

IMG_5686_edited-1

Two years ago I kept a journal every day.  It was rather daunting and time-consuming and I felt like I was writing ALL THE TIME.  Last year I decided to try the Photo 365 thingy.  You take a photo everyday and at the end of the year you will have a nice little collection that visualizes your year.  I failed miserably with this one.  I'm not sure why because I ALWAYS have a … [Read more...]

Mighty friendly in Moravia, Texas!

IMG_5203_edited-1

I must have a "I LOVE BEER" sign flashing on my forehead.  A friend of mine, Jim Goeman from Shiner, Texas (story to follow) took me to Moravia, Texas, to meet Henrietta and Frank Filip.  Henrietta and Frank own the Moravia Store.  The "store" is one of the oldest country stores in Texas, and once again, I felt right at home. Moravia, Texas, is named in honor … [Read more...]

A Coal Miner’s Son

IMG_4386-1

Down in a hollow, in the coal mining hills of Eastern Kentucky, lived Melvin and Clara Webb.  Melvin and Clara had eight children, Melvin Jr., Loretta (Loretta Lynn), Herman, Jay Lee (Willie Lee), Donald Ray, Peggy Sue, Betty Ruth and Brenda Gail (Crystal Gayle).  A rather musically inclined family I will have to say. Herman Webb, a man in his 70's, with white, … [Read more...]

Tremp You Low

IMG_3636_2

Well, thats how I believe you say it. As I continued my trek North, and suffering through another indescribably hot day, I passed through the town of Trempealeau, Wisconsin, on my way to the State Park for the night. Just for the heck of it I stopped at a little motel, Inn on the River, and inquired about the price for a room per night. The gentleman gave me the price, I … [Read more...]

No-Bake Nutella Cheesecake

IMG_1010_edited-1

When I was growing up in Germany, Nutella was a staple.  A dense, crusty, thin slice of bread, toasted and then smothered with Nutella in the morning was the breakfast of champions back in the day! When we moved back to the states I discovered the white fluffy stuff ironically named "Fluff."  It was/is egg whites, sugar, corn syrup and vanilla.  Now, add some of that to a … [Read more...]

Old Friends

IMG_0921_edited-1

Patience.  It is not a virtue I have, and I will not ask God for any.  With my luck, I will be taught patience while in a traffic jam, gas light on, and I have to go potty.  I like me just the way I am Thank-you! BUT, I was told by a few people that when you are a full-time RV'er, make plans, but plan on changing those plans.  As my Grandma always said, "Shit happens!" … [Read more...]

Newnan4

Down Hwy 29 in Georgia, sits the town of Newnan.  It is a small town of 30,000 people, with a beautiful Court House Square, and antebellum homes everywhere.  It is home to the famous Sprayberry BBQ, thanks to Lewis Gizzard, and it is has the largest slave cemetery in the South. As we pull into town we noticed that there were tents set up around the Court House and decided … [Read more...]
