They are still standing!

...visit a long-time friend, Patricia, and her three amazing sons. When I left New York, I left four hours later than I had planned.  The drive time from Southold, New York, to Chesapeake, Virginia was over 9 hours.  This was avoiding the toll roads. HATE THEM!  You pay to drive on some of the crappiest roads in the country.  I decided to lower my head and drive on roads … [Read more...]

The Two Tines

...a drive to the end of the two forks of Long Island. The sun was shining, the air was crisp and the wind was soft as we headed east.  A leisure stroll along the rocky beach lead us to the end of the North Fork of New York and I spotted my first lighthouse.  To the left of the lighthouse is Connecticut, a mere stones throw away.  Not really, but you could see … [Read more...]

2012 gone already…

2012

I know this is a smidgen late, but I have been a smidgen busy...   Another year has passed, and once again, too quickly.  It is true that time goes faster the older you get, but it certainly doesn't mean I enjoy it less.  I believe I have learned to enjoy it more, and hopefully, you have enjoyed the sharing of my adventures with you. 2012 started out with me … [Read more...]

a GREAT idea!

Two years ago I kept a journal every day.  It was rather daunting and time-consuming and I felt like I was writing ALL THE TIME.  Last year I decided to try the Photo 365 thingy.  You take a photo everyday and at the end of the year you will have a nice little collection that visualizes your year.  I failed miserably with this one.  I'm not sure why because I ALWAYS have a … [Read more...]

I remember when 40 was old!

1290_large

I remember being a kid and looking at my parents thinking,"THEY ARE OLD!"  Not anymore.  I now look at teenagers and think, "Glad I'm not their age!"  How time makes you think differently. Age is a wicked, and sometimes amusing thing. I met Scott  shortly after I graduated from high school, and we married a year later.  His brother, Terry, and wife Celeste, were 10 … [Read more...]

I am the type of person that keeps my spices in alphabetical order.  The canned goods are stacked two high, labels facing forward and are in alphabetical order also.   All of my clothing hang in my closet 1" apart, and are categorized from no sleeves,  short sleeves, three quarter sleeves then long sleeves.  Summer and winter.   Skirts hang from shortest to longest, same … [Read more...]

As I say “Good-bye” to 2011…

I joyously welcome 2012!  I decided, and said, 2011 was going to be an exceptional year for me, and it was. My year started out by spending New Years with my cousin, Michelle, in Orlando.  That was a great time with my cousin, had fabulous food and made new friends.  A few days later I met my best friend, Quynh in Hawaii for a few days of fun in the sun.  Quynh is in the … [Read more...]

This is a Southern thing

DSC06897

I am a Yankee. I was transplanted in the south 31 years ago after moving from Germany to Alabama.  A few of the southern thangs, (there is no "i" in thangs down here) have rubbed off on me. Like, "HEY Y'ALL!" Then there is that wonderful concoction called sweet tea, and when you go out to eat, the waitress will ask, "Waadaa ya have to drink?" To which you would respond, "I … [Read more...]

Stop your whining!

Sam whining

Why do we whine so much? I mean seriously, come on! We, as Americans, have it so much better than the majority of the world, and yet we are constantly whining.   I received a picture from a friend who is on vacation in Europe. The picture was of the stairs that they had to climb to get to the plane. They were whining. The stairs were outside, and it was … [Read more...]

The long way home.

This past Friday, Bruce and I decided to head back to Montgomery a day early. We spent the week in Wisconsin visiting my family and the whole time I was sick. And I mean SICK! Eleven days of being sick and on Friday I finally felt like a human again, and we leave...Sorry Marlene and Tom!    We decided to drive through Illinois instead of Indiana for a change of … [Read more...]
