Full Circle

There is nothing new under the sun. This is actually a verse from the bible, Ecclesiastes 1:9 “What has been before will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” If you think something hasn’t been done before or hasn’t been invented yet, just dig a little. You will find it has. Now the question is, what can you do to make it better or do it better?

Several years ago, during my “June Cleaver” days of cooking and baking, I called the Crisco shortening people and suggested they put the Crisco in “sticks” like butter. The lady told me that it would not work, the Crisco would melt. I said, “No it won’t if it is put in containers.” We have Crisco in sticks now, and in my opinion, it is better, and I love them!

When I came up with the idea of traveling across the country down back roads almost 30 years ago I was going to travel in my car. I am now too old to sleep in my car, so I thought an RV would be better. I have been informed that Charles Kuralt did this same thing back in the 60’s and wrote a couple of books about it. I am going to write a book when I am finished also. I now have to figure out a way to do it better. I did find one of his books, and I will admit, I’m having a hard time getting into it. I am finding it a little boring. I hope mine will not be like this.

That is me in the front. Taken when we lived in Germany. Circa 1978

Think about fashion, I’m more of a 70’s chick than an 80’s chick. I liked the hip huggers and bell bottoms more than the jeans that came up just under my boobs. Yes, I just said that. Those jeans were HORRIBLE! And have you looked at pictures of yourself from the 80”s? Good God! The hair was the worst, the bigger, the better. I would spend more time trying to get my hair bigger than it took to dry it. Now look at our hair, it’s flat and straight again. This only means the 80’s fashion trend is just around the corner! I will stay in the 70’s for as long as I can.

Everything ends up coming full circle. When we are kids, we just want to play and have fun. As young adults, we work to have the house, nice cars and stuff to fill the house. In our mid life, we have paid for our house and have socked away enough money for our retirement. And then our golden years come, and we just want to play and have fun again. We start out in diapers, and we will end up in diapers. Someone has to take care of us for the first few years of our life, and the same goes for the last few of years of our life if we are lucky enough. We came from dust, and to dust we will return.

Life is a circle, and there is nothing new, just better ways to do what we have already done. Enjoy the ride, and remember, it’s always good to leave things better than the way you found them. Try to do something to make a positive improvement in your world, where ever that may be. Don’t take life to seriously, we all end up the same way. Laugh out loud and smile!
